This map is deceptively large. I have a similar layout of ramps in a room in
one of my castle maps. Note - I said "room". It seems even for it's
largeness here that there is no place to hide. Being the coward that I am ...
I take issue with this. LOL Nonetheless and perhaps personally bias due to
my own similar construction, this map has attributes. It consists on a single
room, as declared by author, with a web of cool, fall off as you will (no help
needed), ramps. Weapons abound but I found a greater need for bandages. (LOL
I would) It is highlighted, by some key curios that are like chocolate chips
in a cookie. It has well designed two laser beams, the deadly kind that MUST
be watched out for. It has a toxic pit of "not advisable to soak in here"
that means real business. And a jump pad that I, personally, could hardly get
enough of. This map could use a more of those !!! So why with all this going
for it does it seem to lack playability ? Even I am stumped. I guess it lay
in the claustrophobic nature of it. I kept looking for that place to GO ...
there isn't any. There is even a nifty center platform but the reward for
bothering to go up there is small. I think this may be the "poster child" of
an Unreal mapper's first "A" Grade for mastery of the Editor. Even the
textures and lighting are perfect ... yet ... it is the Game Play that can't
hold it's own here. I am in no way giving this map a bad review !!! I like
it. However, I think I would "like" it more if I could go someplace; I could
not. If I could hide; I could not. Thus in short order you find yourself
running in a beautifully designed ribbon of ramps in a snazzy room with lots
going on ... only to ... find yourself running. LOL It's a great place to
wonder what you're doing there. d:-)
Addendum: I left the review like this but it is such an extremely well
crafted map that I propose this to the author; TRY THIS: Take it into the
editor and copy ALL of the main structure, rotate it 180 degrees and connected
each at the cool arched open way (now one at each end) (BTW do the same with
the lights !!!). Put some similar crossovers (or semi-fully open) at the top
level ramps, and put those windows on the outside and SEE d8-) if that
doesn't make this very design sparkle - even more.
