Unreal PSX

Post by Leo T_C_K »

Unreal PSX was cancelled Unreal port with all new content (unlike N64 version I think which was handled by Epic themselves during 97), also Unreal PSX was a working title and by the time the game was cancelled it was 50 percent complete or something...but they made the framerates smooth etc..the lead designer was Eric Reuter, who originally worked for Unreal(credited only a additional level design, because his whole levels (like amethyst skycity level) didn't make it to game, but he helped designing other aspects of game (perhaps some of jeremy war's work include some of his work too or leftovers) and also on a cancelled level pack for Unreal.

Unreal PSX had all new levels and also some new features (there was revealed even one new weapon). And the levels were unfinished, so it is very possible it would look much better in final version.

But excuse the quality of these levels, they had to make sure it will run smooth on PSX with rather high FPS.

I found 4 persons who worked on that game so far, one of them is this designer, which he shows some of his levels in screenshots and video:

http://www.nathansilvers.com/coppermine ... hp?album=8

Also download
http://www.nathansilvers.com/demo.php

It has shown unreal psx in action.

The video is dating back to 2004, so it does not show his most recent stuff.

A playstation version of Unreal? You seem to have a knack for unearthing old Unreal treasures Leo :D

Very interesting indeed.

I found some of information about this title..when browsing around on sites and also I had to dig some info from wayback machine, because some articles were lost during time...
Also you can thank Infogrames for cancelling this title.

I knew Unreal was possible on the Playstation 1, but what about the N64?

No need for that...
http://forums.beyondunreal.com/showthread.php?t=185852

I already emailed them all before (even before I created the threads) and I got response from Matthew Kagle and he is contacting the lead to see if he can get permission to release it.

I did not want to create chaos by announcing it early and all that....I did not expect you will mail him actually.
Guess now it is exactly the opposite.
I got in contact with Eric Reuter a year ago...there was possibility of him releasing some beta stuff (it was actually that good news for unreal community which I kinda announced in another thread), but I didn't hear from him for some time. And it is not sure he will release it to public anyway so.
I wanted to keep it as a secret until it is all released and revealed and now you all spoiled it. :-X

Again, Infogrames/Atari are the reason why everything gets canceled/released too early/unfinished etc.... Good thing Epic no longer work with them!

What the hell costs more seriously? Publishing you're own materials yourself? Or hiring a third party company to do that for you?

I wish this PSX Unreal was released so I can load it up in ePSXe.. I bet it has the Beta 98 sounds...

Well...I hope it will get released in a PC form as well, at all they did the levels in unreal editor etc. If there will be some incompatibility problem I can try convert it or something...
And it won't have beta sounds, it will probably have the version 200 ones, if even those, it can have the "new" sounds alright.

You can load some UT Dreamcast maps straight on UT Unrealed, but they're nothing special. most maps with movers had them replaced with ramps.

What about PS2 UT? I know that version had some maps that aren't in PC UT.

There was a thread in beyondunreal, someone was converting the PS2 maps...in a better way than they were converted before...also there are some new maps and the PS2 version has all skeletal characters plus it has also some exclusive models which were never ported and exclusive bosses.

I don't have neither dreamcast or PS2 versions though.

Yeah, the challenge mode had 5 boss battles

If memory serves, it went like this:

Damian (Model Not In PC UT)
Dominator? (Skaarj Model)
A Warboss Model, Different from the PC Version
Xan ( Xan MKII Model Methinks)

There was another I'm sure, but I had the PS2 version over 3 years ago, and Don't have a PS2 anymore :(

I have the PS2 UT, want me to check? Although I lost the original memory card with the completed game so I'll have to replay through the game.

There's one level that isn't in the PC version that I remember. It's a CTF level, but I can't remember its name...

I vaguely remember an Egyptian-styled Domination map and a City-Themed Deathmatch map.

I received the files from Matthew Kagle and he agrees with publishing the levels...the problem is the storyline it doesn't make sense beacuse you didn't play beginning.
Also the system file does not work...maybe it does in difefrent version of Unreal but for now...I had to make a different version of the file.

I posted the files as attachment for now...
